Isn't it ironic

Politicians get voted in by our democratic system. They have campaigned about how much they will do for the people in their electorate. They get on TV, in the papers, on the radio and sprout about how they know what is best, and how they will ‘get the job done’

But when push comes to shove, they are just like kids in the school yard. Gangs and clubs form, they have petty fights over pointless things. The biggest gang or the gang with the biggest kid normally wins. When the underdog wins against the bully, and the bully is made to look foolish, they usually just slink away till the next fight, or try to bluff their excuses to anyone who will listen.

When we look back on our school years we realise how childish and adolescent it all was, and are pleased that we grew out if it and have moved ahead with our lives.

Now the elected ‘leaders’ of the whole country do exactly what we did in high school, but they play it out on TV, in the papers and on radio…..isn’t it ironic

3 runs in 3 days - 26/27/28

Friday morning in the CBD, took on the Tan anticlockwise with 4 x 250m fast added in. Was a good work out, overall. 11k in 50ish min.

Saturday with Run 4 the Kids training, I was swapped into the 10k fast group. A nice steady start and lap 1 of the Tan done at about 4.40pace. 2nd lap runners were given the option to go or not to go, I settled with a runner and we ended up at about 4.20pace. We all met up at the end for a group finish, in about 47min.

Sunday evening after work I decided on a long run on Dandy Creek trail, on my own I was not sure how it would go. But I felt pretty good early and so went for 52min out and then returned. Kept having to drop the pace as I was pushing too hard naturally. Still finished in 48min. Not long enough, but the effort required will do me good.

Run 25 - 1hr in the hills of Chirny

After my usual leg around home – measured at 7.75k (last night), I decided to map out a longer course that I could use for Puffing Billy training.

My aim was for a 13k course, taking in as many hills as I could but avoiding covering my tracks – I do not like running the same terrain in the same run… -- Using UBD on disk I mapped it out, then today I was going to run the parts I had not run before.

I left the watch at home, and just ran a comfortable pace. Running a course for the first time does throw up some surprises, but again I was not forced to walk any of the hills in about 55min of running. I messed up the course, but not too far wrong so I know the terrain for next time.  Rough estimate of about 12ks so better than 5min pace is OK.

Last night I measured the full mapped out course in the car and it is exactly 13.2k, the same distance as the Puffing Billy race, so it will be a good measure in preparation for the May 7th race. Looking forward to being much better prepared this year.

Anyone keen to join me on a hilly and twisty course in lovely Chirnside – let me know, I’m happy to be the guide.

Run 24 - Long on Sunday

Met up with Eat Em & Wilco from the Ausrun forum, for a 7am start on Warby trail. The plan was to run for about 105ish minutes.

We started at Wandin and headed East towards Woori Yallock. The rain from Saturday and over night meant that conditions were cool and damp. When we started there was no rain, but that changed later. We settled into a nice easy rhythm and enjoyed the peace and quiet of the early morning, although our chatter probably disturbed any critters nearby.

56min saw us at the Worri Yallock station, we stopped, stretched and headed back. The legs felt good the whole time, a slight tightness in the calves that has not cleared for a while, tight but not painful.  The return leg has a couple of long rises in it so there is a definite effort required to keep the pace ticking over.

I had been sent a trial pack of Sport Shield, designed to stop any chafing, and I was happy to report that on the upper thighs and nipples etc which usually cop some abuse were all OK and rub free, so I think I’ll order some in the full bottle.

Back at Wandin after 1hr54min, so a slightly longer return leg. Later in the day I still felt fresh and not at all like I had ‘punished’ myself in the morning, so this is a good sign that my fitness and running legs are coming along nicely.

Almost 2hrs this run, so the next one will go just over 2hr, building towards some 3hr30min training runs.

Run 23 - Short and Slow

Training run with Run for the Kids, 5ks medium it was supposed to be, but a runner had been on the beers the night before and was in no shape to be out running…..so it was a 5k – very slow. Oh well, still raised a little sweat, and the legs still had to move, but not sure it was worth the drive into the city for….
